We’re a one stop shop for students to learn everything they need to know to be successful in the restaurant industry and in life.
Our Mission
Is to provide opportunities for our students to succeed, grow and thrive over the course of our three year program. We teach students to take charge of, and define, their own narrative.
Students learn to not only follow recipes, but to cook from the heart, mastering the techniques of cooking while exploring how different tastes marry to create simple dishes with complex flavors. Students learn the hard skills of cooking and baking while earning college credits and industry certifications.
We have used these skills to host and cook for as few as 5 and as many 350 guests. Our guests have included Secretary of Education John King, Lt. Governor Austin Davis, Senator Lindsey Williams, and AFT President Randi Weingarten, as well as our most important guests, our fellow students, families, and teachers of Westinghouse Academy.
We use the hook of learning to cook to teach and practice the soft skills that are so often overlooked. Anyone can learn to follow a recipe. But it takes true character to learn when to lead and when to follow. Mastering these soft skills is what sets our students up for success. Whether they choose to continue their culinary career, attend college, join the military, or explore other job opportunities they will be incredible additions to any team.
The culinary industry is the American Dream. It is one of the last few true meritocracies. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." -Emma Lazarus should be above the door to every kitchen.
